About Me

My name is Kelly T Keating and I live in New York City.  I have a long history of collecting antique and vintage items since childhood..  Presently, I personally collect 19th century English transferware pottery in aesthetic and chinoiserie patterns, 19th century and early 20th century sterling and silverplate flatware and hollowware in a variety of patterns and English Edwardian sterling.  I have my strongest knowledge in these areas, but I have a great ability for research and I can find any item you desire.  For the last 15 years I have worked as an associate floral designer for Jo's Blooms in Short Hills, New Jersey which offers beautiful permanent floral designs for private homes.  In my capacity at Jo's Blooms, (If you are interested a permanent floral designs for your home in the New York City/New Jersey area, please contact me.)  I often would work with both designers and clients to locate antique and vintage accessories for the home.  After many years of doing this enjoyable work as a sideline, I have decided to make it into a business.

In the Fall of 2014 I completed the certificate program for appraisal studies in the  fine and decorative arts at New York University.  I am also USPAP compliant (Unifrom Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) through 19 March 2022 and am an Accredited Member at the Appraisers Association of America.  I specialize in American, English and Continental silver as well as English pottery and porcelain from the 18th century to the late 19th century. I am in addition the research assistant to a top New York City appraiser.

I have a BA in art history with honors from Trinity College, Hartford, CT and was the President's Fellow in Art History for my class.  I also completed a MA in art history with honors from CUNY Hunter College, New York City.  While at Trinity I spent a semester studying at the School of Art History at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, England. The following summer I was a research assistant at the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London where I researched Thomas Gainsborough for the exhibition, "A Nest of Nightingales" about portraits by Gainsborough of the prominent Linley family. From my studies and experience, I am knowledgeable about the characteristics of a variety of styles be it modern, art deco, art nouveau, belle epoque, arts and crafts or rococo.

"I am constantly amazed at Kelly's design and decorating aesthetic.  His attention to detail is remarkable, and he knows the history of every piece in his collections. I love to hear the stories and an explanation of what something is. Who knew that there was such a thing as a French sugar sifter? I commissioned him to locate a silver candelabra for me. He completely understood what I was looking for, and located many choices for me. Ultimately we found a beautiful silver candelabra from England. I love to look at it every day. I've recently commissioned him to help on the restoration of a Mies van der Rohe Barcelona chair. He did a lot of research for me (this is surprisingly a difficult challenge), and recommended many options for me. I cannot wait for it to arrive. I would be remiss to not mention how much I love to read the Antique Flâneur blog. I am amazed at the level of detail in his descriptions.  I would highly recommend him, he will amaze you." - Nancy in New York City

"Kelly's deep and thorough knowledge of 19th and 20th century collectible objects, from the art and architecture to the furniture and everything in-between (with particular emphasis on silver and porcelain) is without peer. His expert eye for detail along with his remarkable understanding of the periods make for an excellent professional combination and are particularly important for the work he does for you. If he can't find it, no one can. As if that weren't enough, he's a delight to know." - Robert in Southern California
